Workshop on Implementation of the Code of Practice on Clearance and Exemption Processes, Practices and Principles

A two-day workshop on the implementation of the Nuclear Industry Clearance and Exemption Code of Practice, hosted by BNES and the Clearance and Exemption Working Group (CEWG).

Objectives

  • Acknowledge the requirements of key stakeholders and organisations seeking to dispose of waste materials with potential for low levels of radioactivity.
  • Consider the effects of potential changes to the legal framework relating to radioactive waste disposal.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the Code of Practice as a guide to releasing potentially radioactive waste materials from regulatory control, in a manner that is safe, legal and responsible.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practice arrangements on the characterisation and disposal of potentially radioactive waste materials.
  • Assess how widely and how well the Code of Practice has been implemented around the UK.
  • Identify opportunities for further development of the Code of Practice.
